What is Cryptology
Cryptology is a science that is concerned with the communication and storage of data in a secure form. Another term for it is cryptography. It is considered to be a branch of both computer science and mathematics. It is also affiliated with information theory as well as computer security and engineering.

Computer science and mathematics
Cryptology is often used in applications that are found in electronic commerce. It is a process where ordinary information called plain text is converted into seemingly unintelligible gibberish known as cipher text. A cipher is a pair of algorithms which are used to create the encryption of the information and its reversing decryption. Its operation is controlled by the algorithm and a key, which is a secret parameter that is known only by those who are using the encryption to communicate.
