Cryptology is often used in applications that are found in electronic commerce. It is a process where ordinary information called plain text is converted into seemingly unintelligible gibberish known as cipher text. A cipher is a pair of algorithms which are used to create the encryption of the information and its reversing decryption. Its operation is controlled by the algorithm and a key, which is a secret parameter that is known only by those who are using the encryption to communicate.
